Hot Wheels Unleashed 2–Turbocharged Byte Sized Review (XSX)
Coming out over two years after the release of the first Hot Wheels Unleashed. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged is another serving of bold and bright arcade racing fun. Timed no doubt to cash in on Black Friday and Christmas consoles that will be soon unwrapped by young gamers everywhere. Unfortunately for owners of the first title there isn’t much new here, even for those die hard Hot Wheels fans.
What’s so Hot about Hot Wheels Unleashed 2?
At its core, just like its predecessor, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged is a very capable arcade racer. There is definitely some fun to be had here but the longevity lies in the desire to collect all the Hot Wheels and filling your in game garage with the huge selection in front of you. You race, you earn credits, you buy cars, you race, ad nauseam… And although the cars all fall under different categories they all are very similar once on the track.
Visually you are getting what you would expect here. A very colourful and faithful representation of your favourite Hot Wheels. Unfortunately as nice as the tracks are, they soon become repetitive. There is campaign mode to move through the map with a loose story about saving the city or something. I didn’t pay attention to the story at all. It was all about unlocking more cars…
Plenty to do and see.
There is a decent selection of game modes to keep you interested for a bit and for those who are dedicated there is the track creation tool as well. I am definitely not dedicated enough to sink time into making my own tracks. The upside is that there are dedicated people out there which means there is a huge selection of user created tracks for you to download. As an overall package there is a lot here. Whether it manages to hook you is a different story.
Closing Comments
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged is a quick bit of fun. Younger gamers will love it. Old gamers will get a limited amount of enjoyment before the repetition kicks in. It is yet another faithful representation of our favourite little toys.
What it has done is make me want to get the big containers down from the attic space with all our physical Hot Wheels tracks in…
