Quantum 910P, Wireless JBL
Just in time for Christmas JBL (re)launch their top shelf 910 wireless headsets, two distinct versions the Quantum 910P and 910X for Playstation and Xbox owners respectively.
I’m admittedly a big fan of the brand, and even when I get to test other headsets, it’s the JBLs that get hooked back up. It’s amazing that pretty much a year and a half has passed since I reviewed the 910 wireless, and everything still stands. It’s a model that ticks all the boxes for me, form, function and long-session comfort. Then the Quantum 901P came across my desk, what could they offer?
What’s new then?
Well the design aspect is new for sure, with the Quantum 910P being dressed for Playstation success and the 910X looking like part of the Microsoft family. For thise of us that like to be colour co-ordinated its going to be a good thing, and its fair to say I quite like seeing the white 910Ps sitting next to my PS5. Just not in a game-changing kind of way. The outside of the Quantum 910P is white with blue trim, and inevitably the RGB lighting is blue centric, as far as aesthetics go, its a pleasing unit.
Physically they are light to hold and bear a lot of the trademark JBL functions, they are also inevitably comfy to wear, this I can confirm after a few 5-hour Black Ops sessions. Once the RGB kicks in, the headset comes to life, although after a while I had to turn off the lighting because I could see the blue flashes in my perisperhal vision. Maybe reflected from my glasses, but I thing its the result of the white shell and being more translucent that normal. At the end of the day, while the lighting is cool, I like to get longer play time by saving the battery use and turning them off.
Functionally speaking
The Quantum 910P are as expected packed full of functionality.
The JBL Quantum SPATIAL 360 is up there, coupled with head tracking and bringing immersive virtual surround sound. Using the previous 910s and these, I can’t see, feel or hear a lot of difference, but I guarantee there be some. Alongside the SPATIAL 360, they come equipped with a two stage dongle for lossless wireless connection, again, I love the USB-A/C dongle. I’m waiting however for some storage or magnetic stowage for the dongle when not in use. Team JBL, please take note.
The Quantum 910P is also dual source enabled, so you game run game audio and still make or receive phone calls. The microphone boom is still flip-up to mute, the usual on-ear controls are here, whether you are balancing chat and gameplay sound. They with connect wirelessly to Playstation, Windows and Nintendo, of course Xbox has to put up with a 3.5mm jack again.
Over and Out
It’s hard to come up with anything new to say, the 910 is a best in class model as far as I’m concerned and while there will be improvements under the hood, the key update here is the Playstation matching livery. Fair to say if you are looking for a last minute gift for the new Christmas PS5 owner, then this is it.
As ever, Sound is Always Survival, you’ll be amazed how much a pair of these headsets will focus your game.
