Far Cry 6, PS5 Review

not looking forward to Far Cry 6 at all. I haven’t been interested in a Far Cry game since the brilliant Far Cry 3. I’m happy to say Far Cry 6 has grabbed me in a big way and it is great fun.

There is no great mystery around what sort of game and genre Far Cry 6 is. It’s an FPS open-world action game. Exactly like all those that have come before. This time round it is set in a fictional Caribbean archipelago called Yara, which for all intents and purposes, is Cuba. Ruled by the ruthless “El Presidente” Antón Castillo played by Giancarlo Esposito. Yara is controlled by his military and as expected, there is a grass-roots resistance movement. Which it turns out needs my special ‘Guerrilla’ gamer skills to overthrow the “El Presidente”!

Byte Size – Far Cry New Dawn Review (Xbox One X)

Returning to Hope County 17 years and a nuclear war after the events of Far Cry 5 finds the county some what brighter than one would expect.

The Good – It is the Far Cry 5 we all know and love, but with and excellent splash of colour and some RPG-lite elements thrown in.

The Bad – Like Far Cry 5 you can have an ally along side to help out. Just don’t rely on them to get the job done.

The New – Since the map is effectively the same as Far Cry 5 the addition of Expeditions has been made to create a bit of variety. The Expedition maps themselves are a good mix and some pretty cool locations too.

Overall I found Far Cry New Dawn more engaging that Far Cry 5, considering this is just a re-skin, and what some would argue should have been just a DLC, it shows it has something special.

CRYSIS – XBLA / PSN (Review)

Hot on the heels of last year’s Crysis2 comes a refreshed and revitalised update of 2007 classic PC shooter Crysis. The game set 3 years before the sequel never made it to consoles, after disproving many doubters with Crysis2 developers Crytek have gone back to the future and delivered console gamers the experience they deserved.

Crysis on the XBLA/PSN networks is downloadable only and weighs in around 4 gigabytes, testament to some of the quality visuals that it consistently delivers. This version is very much an update of the original, new lighting effects and a slick nanosuit control scheme that will be familiar to players of the sequel.  

For a title that is four years old under the hood, it rarely shows I have encountered some oddball behaviour with enemy AI and perhaps the weight of the ballistics feels a little old school, but on the whole it is really quite jaw dropping.

I remember when the first Avatar movie came out. It was mind blowing. Well, the visuals were anyway.

And, although there has been previous Avatar base games, what we all want is that same level of visual fidelity that is portrayed in the movies. Thankfully with the release of Avatar – Frontiers of Pandora, that is something we do get.

Microsoft are on a roll there’s no debate Gamepass is the service du jour, Flight Simulator made a massive splash and now we get the Master Chief for Christmas.

Make no mistake the silly season is going to be peppered with the screams of a billion Grunts.

Days Gone, PS4 Video Review

Days Gone is yet another in-house Sony AAA release to add to the long line of PS4 exclusives this generation, and I can say at the top, its certainly continuing Playstations trend of exceptional first party exclusives. That said, I’m not sure I would put it shoulder to shoulder with the likes of God of War or Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Days Gone, or how I have come to lovingly refer to it “Red Dead: Motorcycle”, is excellent. It perhaps doesn’t boast the narrative chops of some of the games I have mentioned above, but it is still stellar and heaps of fun.
