Stellar Blade X NieR : Automata DLC

I reviewed Stellar Blade back in April this year and said this- “Stellar Blade is the first “AAA” outing for Seoul based developer Shift-Up and they have knocked it outta the park”. And I said this – “This is a fantastic Sci-Fi adventure, with deep, satisfying combat, amazing graphics and awesome world building. Stellar Blade is in my GOTY 2024 discussions, for sure!

So yep, I really liked it. And now we have some DLC to chew on, and to add to the hype its NieR Automata themed!

The X Nier Automata pack is $14.95 (NZD) and is primarily a Cosmetics pack. But it does have some nuance. This takes the form of having to track down the Travelling Vendor “Emil” from the Nier universe. He spawns in random spots in the wasteland. Intercepting him unlocks his wares for purchase, the 11 cosmetics.

More than just a Stellar Blade X NieR DLC wardrobe

But the cosmetics must be purchased with unique collectable cans called “Stellar Tears”, which are scattered all over the open world levels. 15 of them need to be found in The Wasteland and The Great Desert, with single images and some clues to guide the way. Obviously in 2024 there is no shortage of walkthrough vids and guides, but I actually really enjoyed the detective work and scavenger hunt.

The cosmetics are primarily for Eve, so she looks like 2B and A2 out of Nier. Both their clothing and hair. There is also Nier themed outfits for Eves’ two companions and her drone. Once I had them applied, I couldn’t help but be impressed with how great the original Nier: Automatas character design was. So weird, but cool too.

Weebs will love the skimpy outfits and jiggly bits, but when considered in actual value for money for a “cosmetic DLC pack”, I liked it. The fact it was more than just a new menu option to “change outfit” was appreciated. There was some scavenger hunting and adventuring back in the Stellar Blade world to get the new gear. And frankly, it did its job…. The DLC got me to reinstall one of the best games around, and reminded me that it is a real 2024 GOTY contender for me.
