No Man’s Sky Review, Xbox One X

When No Man’s Sky was released back in 2016 for the PS4 I was so jealous as a Xbox owner. I was actually very close to purchasing a PS4 because of this. If you read Richard and Guy’s thoughts on the original release you can see it was a very polarising game that Hello Games had on their hands.

Thankfully the development team took all the comments, both positive and negative, on board and knuckled down for a couple of years to bring us the Xbox One release as well as a definitive update to PS4 and PC under the name of No Man’s Sky Next.

Have they nailed it? Or is it just the ‘next’ big disappointment?

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Review (Xbox One X)

Now I have to admit I see myself as a pretty big gamer and have been since the early 1980’s. So it is a bit embarrassing to have to say that I have never really played any Mega Man games and as I now know, there is plenty of them.

Not really sure why I missed so much gaming goodness when I was younger but am regretting it now, mainly because now I’m older the reactions aren’t up to scratch for Mega Man and his pals.

Well at least now I have given the Mega Man X series, all eight of them, a crack. Actually I was well and truly beaten on more than one occasion so ‘a crack’ may well be the wrong term. Maybe ‘I have been (old)schooled by Mavericks’ would be a better tag line…

Mario Tennis Aces, Nintendo Switch

The Mario-fication of sports games are something I have enjoyed across generations, Mario Golf in particular on a black and white Gameboy Pocket through to the colourful N64 version. Seeing first shots of Mario Tennis grabbed my attention, the sharp visuals and the potential for a tennis game coupled with the Switch in its riding high position of recent months.

Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for. With the benefit of hindsight I would be wishing for a more conventional tennis game.

Wolfenstein 2, Nintendo Switch

We do love a bit of rebooted Wolfenstein in this corner of the web, the franchise has brought old school style shooters back to the fore along with as much gore your stomach can master.

So hearing about it making its way to the Switch was a surprise given the Nazi bashing adult nature of the game and how it would sit with Nintendo’s family fun image.

Fear not BJ fans, its (mostly) all intact and relentless as ever.

Now we wait. #Wolfenstein3

The latest province to open up in Tamriel via expansion pack. And a beautiful holiday destination it would make. Home of the High Elves and even rumoured to be the birth place of civilisation as we know it, a serene and peaceful place, well until those pesky Daedric Worshippers showed up.

I guess the plan is to rid the place of these fellas so you can kick back on the beach with a Colovian Amber Ale or two…

Time for another guest article from Nina, who last time bought us some deeper thoughts on Hellblade. This time around some casual musings on the Playstation exclusive Detroit:Become Human.

In typical David Cage fashion, Detroit: Become Human tackles some touchy social issues including race relations and equality, but what I found most compelling about the game was how it tackled some philosophical issues that involve the collective mindsets of humanity, the nature of machines with Artificial Intelligence and what the true definition of ‘alive’ is.

Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition, Nintendo Switch

I have a confession, I’ve never been a huge fan of the Warriors series of games. Having played a few over the years the initially exciting impression of mashing your way through thousands of grunts always gave way to an air of ho-hum repetitiveness.

This Zelda themed offshoot, (it has to be said) while being cute and familiar is still a Warriors game at its beating heart.
