Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart PC

Ratchet & Clank are one of PlayStation’s most endearing duos, first appearing on the PlayStation 2 in 2002 from developer Insomniac Games.

The pair were a resounding success on Sony’s games console, and over the years appeared in such classics as Tools of Destruction, Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal.

Now we have Rift Apart PC.

Aliens: Dark Descent, Review

Set 20 years after the Aliens 3 movie, Dark Descent focusses on Tantalus Base, where a Xenomorph outbreak has occurred.

I controlled a squad of Marines, akin to “The Commander” in XCOM from the crashed command ship, The Otago.

It has some loose similarities to XCOM, except its combat which is a Real-Time Strategy game, not turn based.

It is however a Newt free zone.

Company of Heroes 3, PS5 review

PC Real Time Strategy (RTS) games live and die by their control system when ported to Console.

Company of Heroes 3 (CoH3) has had the gamepad or controller conversion treatment, and pleasingly I can report the experience on PS5 is excellent.

Surprisingly though, it’s actually some of Relic’s single-player design choices that has caused me concern.

System Shock remake (reviewed on PC)

In 1994, Looking Glass Technologies introduced rogue AI Shodan to the world in the original System Shock.

Set aboard a space station in 2072, the player assumed the role of a hacker who must thwart the evil plans of Shodan, a genuinely unsettling AI who was quite terrifying.

The game was universally praised for its gameplay by critics but was only a moderate commercial success.

Fast forward to 2023 and we’ve seen the release of a remade System Shock from retro game specialist studio Nightdive Studios (Only available on PC at the moment but is coming to consoles later this year).

Stasis Bone Totem (reviewed on PC)

A sequel to 2015 game Stasis, which I never played.

Stasis Bone Totem sees husband and wife oceanic salvagers Mac and Charlie O’Bannon (and robotic bear Moses) stumble across a derelict oil rig run by the Cayne Corporation.

What follows is a Lovecraftian tale that takes the main characters all the way down to an undersea complex and melds themes of an ancient alien civilisation, unnatural human experimentation and Gieger-esque visuals.

Miasma Chronicles, Review

Unfortunately, as a console gamer my platforms of choice don’t equate to a plethora of games in the tactical genre space. So, when I caught wind of the upcoming Miasma Chronicles, I was a happy little tactical camper.

As soon as I started playing, I fell in love with Miasma Chronicles’ unique spin on the post-apocalypse.

25 hours later…we’re still together.

Advance Wars 1+2 : Re-Boot Camp

Advance Wars is a poster-child franchises for Nintendo. After tough turn-based campaigns on Gameboy Advance, it’s rebuilt now for the Switch. There is no mistaking the franchise has the Hearts and Minds of older gamers.

So now would be a good time to get it into the hands of today’s Nintendo faithful. Wouldn’t it?

Redfall Review (XSX)

Redfall, Massachusetts. A lovely island town with great amenities and plenty for locals and tourists alike.

Unfortunately a legion of vampires have also taken a fancy to Redfall as well. Isolating the community and blocking out the sun, our resident fang-faces are having their way with the human population.

Time for a hero, or four, to step up.

Dead Island 2 Review

Dead Island 2 doesn’t mess about, a long awaited sequel to the fondly dismembered Dead Island.

This time round you get to choose from a bunch of keen zombie slayers and make your way through the cluttered alleyways and luxury houses of L.A.

Once you’ve picked your Slayer du jour, depending on their style and skill tree, it’s clobbering time!

Minecraft Legends Byte Size Review (XSX)

Being completely oblivious to this latest Mojang Studios release, my initial thought was of Minecraft Dungeons  and how I had enjoyed that.

I entered the Legends realm with quite a positive outlook. Bring on the Piglins!

Thanks to Microsoft/Xbox for providing a copy of Minecraft Legends to me for review. I really do appreciate it.
