Valkyria Chronicles 4 Review (Xbox One X)

This is my first delve into the Valkyria Chronicles and starting with number four has left me playing catch up with the characters and world of the Federation and the Empire. And being a hugely story driven game I really do feel at a disadvantage.

I get that it is fictional, Japanese, and aimed at a certain market but I just can not warm to the characters at all. Even in their totally impractical, and inappropriate, uniforms…

State of Decay 2 – Daybreak Pack (Xbox One X)

Daybreak is the first real add on for Undead Labs great zombie survival game, State of Decay 2. There have been some weapons and cars made available via DLC, but nothing substantial.

Now six months after the initial game release will have seen most gamers, including myself, having moved on from State of Decay 2. And with so many great releases recently and in the near future it would have to be something pretty spectacular to draw gamers back in.

Forza Horizon 4 Review (Xbox One X)

This time round we find the Horizon Festival taking place in the UK, near Edinburgh, and the big talking point is seasons. Different seasons bring different weather and, of course, different driving conditions.

It’s Forza Horizon. We all know it, we all love it. The fourth release in the series does not disappoint. It is more refined, more social, and most importantly more open.

NBA2K19 Review (Xbox One X)

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Greek Freak, is this years cover athlete and is the first international NBA player to grace the cover of a NBA2K title. This just shows the growth and uptake of the sport, and the game.

..And for the sixth year running I will try and explain the difference in the game from last year and bang on about how awesome it is to have Steven Adams doing so well in the NBA. At least after six years I am finding that I can actually play the game and enjoy it because I no longer lose to school kids at the local park. Now bring on the big boys!

The 2018 Player2 Charity Marathon – back for thirdsies

Yes, we’re plugging another blog, but for a great reason and besides it’s a community thing and together we can make a village or something, in Minecraft at least.

After a successful charity event last year, the Player 2 team are coming back once again to raise money for the Terry Campese Foundation. Last year the team raised over $3700 for the charity, every cent of which went to helping sick and underprivilege families from the Canberra and Southern NSW regions.

This year the crew aim to beat that mark and are looking at the possibility of reaching $4000.

Strange Brigade, PS4 Review

Rebellion have come up trumps with this one, a third person shooter full of mildly challenging puzzles, loot and wave upon wave of monstrous entities.

Taking a sprinkling of Boy’s Own Adventures mixed with a healthy dose of Michael Palin’s Ripping Yarns, enjoy a rollicking trip of Devil-May-Cry-Derring-Do, adventuring into the unknown and fighting evil wherever it raises a mummified head.

Time to get out there and kick Evil where it hurts old chaps!

No Man’s Sky Review, Xbox One X

When No Man’s Sky was released back in 2016 for the PS4 I was so jealous as a Xbox owner. I was actually very close to purchasing a PS4 because of this. If you read Richard and Guy’s thoughts on the original release you can see it was a very polarising game that Hello Games had on their hands.

Thankfully the development team took all the comments, both positive and negative, on board and knuckled down for a couple of years to bring us the Xbox One release as well as a definitive update to PS4 and PC under the name of No Man’s Sky Next.

Have they nailed it? Or is it just the ‘next’ big disappointment?

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Review (Xbox One X)

Now I have to admit I see myself as a pretty big gamer and have been since the early 1980’s. So it is a bit embarrassing to have to say that I have never really played any Mega Man games and as I now know, there is plenty of them.

Not really sure why I missed so much gaming goodness when I was younger but am regretting it now, mainly because now I’m older the reactions aren’t up to scratch for Mega Man and his pals.

Well at least now I have given the Mega Man X series, all eight of them, a crack. Actually I was well and truly beaten on more than one occasion so ‘a crack’ may well be the wrong term. Maybe ‘I have been (old)schooled by Mavericks’ would be a better tag line…

Wolfenstein 2, Nintendo Switch

We do love a bit of rebooted Wolfenstein in this corner of the web, the franchise has brought old school style shooters back to the fore along with as much gore your stomach can master.

So hearing about it making its way to the Switch was a surprise given the Nazi bashing adult nature of the game and how it would sit with Nintendo’s family fun image.

Fear not BJ fans, its (mostly) all intact and relentless as ever.

Now we wait. #Wolfenstein3
