Gotham Knights, Review

Gotham Knights, oh, how the mighty have fallen. WB Games in conjunction with the geniuses at Rocksteady Games crafted the best super hero games ever made.

The Batman Arkham games revolutionised 3rd person brawler games and still hold up today. However, with Rocksteady moving onto a new I.P and WB Montreal now taking up the “Batman Universe” games, we have as a result received Gotham Knights.

And Oh…how the mighty have fallen.

WRC Generations, Review

I am a massive Rally Motorsport fan, both IRL and in video games.

Colin McRae Rally on the PSOne is still one of my all-time favourite video games. In recent years, Rally fans have only had two IPs to choose from.  ‘Dirt’ from Codemasters and the official “WRC” titles from Kylotonn (KT) Games.

But with EA swallowing up Codemasters last year, and then taking the “WRC” licence from Kylotonn from 2023 onwards. 2022s WRC Generations is the last outing for the WRC franchise under KT. So, how did their WRC swansong stack up?

Call of Duty MWII, review

It’s CoD time again, and with Call of Duty MWII this year that’s not a bad thing.

Infinity Ward return to the 2019 reboot from the late PS4 cycle, continuing the story they left off.

With a familiar roster of characters and the less grizzled, but still legendary Captain Price front and centre.

Without beating around the bush in a Ghillie suit, this is one of the best Call of Duty campaigns I’ve played in a while.

Shootas, Blood and Teef, Switch review

Shootas, Blood and Teef draws on the rich tapestry of the Warhammer 40k Universe.

There have been many, various FPS, Turn-Based games and my personal favourite the dungeon crawler Inquisitor.

On paper it’s a match made in heaven.

The opportunity to step into the heavy boots of Space Orks, crack some bad Dad jokes and blow shit up, will float many boats.

A Plague Tale: Requiem Review (XSX)

A Plague Tale: Innocence was a bit of a sleeper hit. Well, to be honest it was down right over looked by many.

Asobo Studio came up with an absolutely stellar piece of gaming in both the story telling and execution departments. The sister and brother duo of Amicia and Hugo de Rune were really put through the ringer in their first trial set in 14th century France.

What with the Hundred Years’ War, Hugo’s illness, and all those rats…

Soulstice Review (XSX)

Welcome to the Holy Kingdom of Keidas. A Kingdom under siege from beyond the Veil by Wraiths, evil creatures with the ability to corrupt and possess the bodies of their victims.

It is up to you to control the sisters, Briar and Lute, on a quest as newly anointed Chimera to stop this invasion. With Briar as the muscle and Lutes sacrifice to bond her to Briar as a Shade, a ghostly visage with immense mystical powers, you enter the city of Ilden to save humankind.

Good Luck.

Avenging Spirit, review

Arcade games in the 90’s were great, Jaleco were a powerhouse and Avenging Spirit was considered a classic in the stable. Lovingly brought back to the living room by Ratalaika Games S.L. its a classic arcade platformer, that deserves to be remembered.

I have a few memories of Avenging Spirit, originally feeding coins into it between college lessons at a greasy cafe way back when. More recently however it cropped up on my Pandora driven Arcade Cab, and I couldn’t help but have a rose-tinted go.

Saints Row, Review

Saints Row, a franchise that has been around the block a few times. Originally landing as a semi-serious alternative to GTA, but with its tongue firmly planted in a cheek. Nature of cheek to be confirmed.

Over the years the games have transitioned into bawdy locker room joke fest with some absolutely ridiculous scenarios. Arguably for the fanbase, the more ridiculous they get the better.

You can’t mistake a Saint’s game. Over the top weapons, puerile humour and hi-octane, yet forgiving action. This iteration does bear those marks, but…

Arcade Paradise Review (XSX)

Arcade Paradise is a game that has me squarely in its sights. I have been lucky enough to go through evolution of coin-op gaming.

From the lone Space Invaders in the corner of the Family Bar at the local pub. Through the side room at the fish n’ chip shop filled with Commando, Ikari Warriors, TMNT, and the likes.

Arcade Paradise is letting us relive that golden era of side rooms filled with glorious fun.

Fobia – St. Dinfna Hotel, Byte Size Review

I have to be honest, I don’t tend to sit alone in the dark with a horror/survival games any more.

Sure, Resident Evil and Silent Hill are memorable experiances from my “gamer history”, but as I have got older they not experiances I need to revisit. Honestly, just too scary.

Fobia – St Dinfna Hotel is drawing inspiration from these giants of the genre, but with slightly less… intensity.
