Stellar Blade, Review

Anyone who doubted South Korea is now a total powerhouse of game development, needs to read the tea leaves. Stellar Blade is the first “AAA” outing for Seoul based developer Shift-Up and they have knocked it outta the park. Part Nier: Automata and part Sekiro but still… unique and most importantly, brilliant fun.

The PS5s arsenal of exclusives is even stronger for having this game in its quiver of titles.

God of War: Ragnarök, PS5 Review

“Boy, this isn’t game!” – Yes, it is…it’s God of War Ragnarök, one of the best games around!

God of War (2018) was one of the stand-out games of the PS4 generation.

The next entry, God of War: Ragnarök has finally arrived on PS5 and once again Kratos and his “Boy”, Atreus, have a new adventure through Norse mythology.

After almost 20hrs I can say with confidence, it will be atop many Game of the Year lists in 2022.

Soulstice Review (XSX)

Welcome to the Holy Kingdom of Keidas. A Kingdom under siege from beyond the Veil by Wraiths, evil creatures with the ability to corrupt and possess the bodies of their victims.

It is up to you to control the sisters, Briar and Lute, on a quest as newly anointed Chimera to stop this invasion. With Briar as the muscle and Lutes sacrifice to bond her to Briar as a Shade, a ghostly visage with immense mystical powers, you enter the city of Ilden to save humankind.

Good Luck.

Guardians of the Galaxy, PS5 Review

I had very little basis to be as hyped as I was for the new Guardians of the Galaxy game.

The E3 trailer looked pretty good, even if Star-Lord was presented as bit of a “dude-bro” and the dev team (of modern Deus Ex fame) have a reasonable pedigree in the AAA space. But I had concerns as the Comic book, super-hero genre is hard to get right.

However…against the odds Eidos Montreal crushed it!

With an absolutely fantastic Marvel game and some of the best characters I have experienced since Mass Effect.

Diablo II – Resurrected

Switch code for Diablo II Resurrected because I don’t need to see it in 4k. Also, I don’t need whiz-bang-Direct-38-high-dynamic-apples. I am happy to play a 20-year-old game in my hands, and I like Diablo a lot without being hardcore about it. I regularly peek into Diablo forums and am greeted with gobbledy-gook terms and verbs that mean absolutely nothing to me.

Deathloop, PS5 Review

Thanks to guest reviewer Mark Isaacson for his in depth Deathloop review.

Set on the mysterious island of Blackreef, you play as highly trained assassin Colt, who awakes to find himself stuck in the same day, every day.

He must slowly piece together clues in order to kill eight targets (Visionaries) before the day ends.

Each visit to the island provides new opportunities to explore, new paths to various objectives and plenty of weird ways to mess up the timeline before it resets.

Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance

This takes me back, Dark Alliance was a hit in our household during the early noughties. Recently married we’d happily cosy up on the couch and smash out night after night of Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance. Followed by Dark Alliance 2, Champions of Norrath, etc, etc. For the time the games hit the mark square on, playable, fun and mechanics that made sense.

Google might tell you Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance is one of the best D&D video games, I’m not here to disagree. This re-work is coming from Black Isle Studios,

Biomutant, PS4 Review

Biomutant, where to begin? A post apocalyptic RPG set in a world not unlike ours, albeit when ours is the ‘before times’.

We felt the sprawling nature of Biomutant would be a good opportunity to team up Richard and Dylan, let’s see.

A world poisoned by toxicity, inhabited by mutated creatures instead of people. Living their simple lives in a pseudo medieval-samurai-esque setting.

Biomutant has a colourful open world, liberally peppered with ruins of humanity. Shells of buildings and rusted cars, intersected with skeletal tracks of Chuggers, sorry, trains.
