Aliens: Dark Descent, Review

Set 20 years after the Aliens 3 movie, Dark Descent focusses on Tantalus Base, where a Xenomorph outbreak has occurred.

I controlled a squad of Marines, akin to “The Commander” in XCOM from the crashed command ship, The Otago.

It has some loose similarities to XCOM, except its combat which is a Real-Time Strategy game, not turn based.

It is however a Newt free zone.

Company of Heroes 3, PS5 review

PC Real Time Strategy (RTS) games live and die by their control system when ported to Console.

Company of Heroes 3 (CoH3) has had the gamepad or controller conversion treatment, and pleasingly I can report the experience on PS5 is excellent.

Surprisingly though, it’s actually some of Relic’s single-player design choices that has caused me concern.

Replikator, review

Replikator had me at “Top Down Sci-Fi Shooter”. I mean what’s not to love, being a huge Alienation fan and having grown up on the likes of Alien Syndrome, and Alien Breed.

Choose a rag-tag character from a bunch of rag-tag characters, including a Space Racoon. Board some crusty Space Stations and fight your way to the Boss. Yes, we’ve been here before.

Redfall Review (XSX)

Redfall, Massachusetts. A lovely island town with great amenities and plenty for locals and tourists alike.

Unfortunately a legion of vampires have also taken a fancy to Redfall as well. Isolating the community and blocking out the sun, our resident fang-faces are having their way with the human population.

Time for a hero, or four, to step up.

Dead Island 2 Review

Dead Island 2 doesn’t mess about, a long awaited sequel to the fondly dismembered Dead Island.

This time round you get to choose from a bunch of keen zombie slayers and make your way through the cluttered alleyways and luxury houses of L.A.

Once you’ve picked your Slayer du jour, depending on their style and skill tree, it’s clobbering time!

Minecraft Legends Byte Size Review (XSX)

Being completely oblivious to this latest Mojang Studios release, my initial thought was of Minecraft Dungeons  and how I had enjoyed that.

I entered the Legends realm with quite a positive outlook. Bring on the Piglins!

Thanks to Microsoft/Xbox for providing a copy of Minecraft Legends to me for review. I really do appreciate it.

Destiny: Lightfall, Review

Destiny Lightfall, what to say, what to say.

Those who know the Cottage, know I’m the resident Destiny fiend. But over the latter part of 2022, new content was a tad light and I had been jonesing for some new Bungie goodness.

The ‘new goodness’ finally arrived in a new expansion Lightfall and it is overall, excellent.

So lets dive into some details, Guardian.

Dredge review: Fishing the deep, dark depths

I usually find that when I think about a game at lot when I’m not playing it.

Trying to find solutions to mysteries, mulling over exactly what did that cryptic conversation with a character mean, then I’m usually smitten with that game.

For me at the moment, that game is Dredge, a “fishing” game from a game development studio in my home town in New Zealand, that has buried itself into my mind and I can’t stop thinking about it, I can’t stop playing it.

I’m smitten with this indie gem.
