Byte Size – Dark Souls Remastered, PS4 Review

Love it, hate it or avoid it like the plague – Dark Souls has influenced the last decade, I first reviewed it on PS3 for long gone website Buttonmasher. Back then it was a breath of fresh air, a game that dared to challenge you, make you play against high risk for a bit less reward.

Back then the game brought innovation and didn’t pander to the soft hearted PS3 owners that couldn’t understand why a pause didn’t pause the game or why they couldn’t quick-save at will. I applauded the game for those things, even though I struggled to progress and to be honest still do.

The Good – Look, its a classic game make no mistake.

The Bad – The HD process hasn’t added much and in comparison to recent games it just feels s…l…o…w…

The Ugly – Boss fights, Boss fights are ugly and unfair and repetitive and just not my cup of tea. Anymore.

PUBG on PS4, December 7th!

Maybe not a complete surprise, but you have to love when things happen quickly.

So, PUBG finally comes to PS4 in a couple of weeks about a year after we reviewed the Xbox version, but hey, this is a Fortnite Free Zone and I personally enjoy the pace and atmosphere that PUBG can generate. So bring it and its nice looking pre-order bonuses.

Oh yes, press release below…

SculptrVR, PSVR Review

Okay, it’s not a game.

SculptrVR is something I have seen in other platforms in similar guises and has been something of a surprise for me.

I have to admit, I know little to nothing about Voxel graphics, but I do consider myself somewhat artistic. Neither of these things helped me while I was plugged in to SculptrVR, my artistic confidence went missing as soon as I realised the scope of what was on offer and my puny human brain couldn’t quite capture the grandness of what I could achieve with 3D Voxel modelling.

Spider-Man, PS4 Review

It is a brave development studio that takes on a ‘Superhero’ videogame and an even braver one to base it on one of the most well-known and beloved Marvel Comics heroes ever created, but Sony and Insomniac Games did, and thankfully they have done the web-slinger proud.

In this PS4 exclusive, Peter Parker, the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, has been cleaning up New York for 8 years and just when he thought he had NYCs worst crooks all locked away, something demonic tears the city apart and unleashes chaos onto the streets.

No Man’s Sky Review, Xbox One X

When No Man’s Sky was released back in 2016 for the PS4 I was so jealous as a Xbox owner. I was actually very close to purchasing a PS4 because of this. If you read Richard and Guy’s thoughts on the original release you can see it was a very polarising game that Hello Games had on their hands.

Thankfully the development team took all the comments, both positive and negative, on board and knuckled down for a couple of years to bring us the Xbox One release as well as a definitive update to PS4 and PC under the name of No Man’s Sky Next.

Have they nailed it? Or is it just the ‘next’ big disappointment?

God of War, PS4 Review

How do you take a big angry Spartan, who has a thing for killing Gods, ripping out eyeballs and taking sexy baths with naked ladies and turn him into a complex, heart-broken character, who is a father that knows he isn’t up to the responsibility of the role.

Well if you are Sony, you give Santa Monica Studios a boat load of money, a heap of time and the creative freedom to completely re-imagine what it is to be a God Of War.

Attack on Titan 2, PS4 Review

With something a little lighter than Senua… Nina’s back!

Attack on Titan is easily my favorite Anime, but I had no idea what to expect from it in video game form. I am delighted to say that I was really impressed with the experience.

That said though, it is a game for the fans of the Manga and Anime, as without some background knowledge, the overarching canon will take a bit to get your head around.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance Review (Xbox One)

Welcome to Bohemia, 1403. You are Henry, son of a blacksmith from the the town of Skalitz.

And now thanks to Warhorse Studios you can experience the day to day tribulations of Henry in the medieval life simulator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

I might be getting older but the pace of Kingdom Come: Deliverance suits me perfectly. It may get close to tedium at times but the fact that even Fast Travel isn’t really that fast is refreshing, and it even gives me time to grab another handle of Mead whilst travelling…
