Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

For more than a decade we’ve been friends of Nathan Drake here at the Cottage.

We’ve re-trod old ground with the previous Drake Collection, been wowed by Uncharted 4 and Guy thoroughly enjoyed Lost Legacy.

It’s been a journey, fraught with miraculous leaps, ferocious beasts, all manner of mercenaries and often faultless Naughty Dog narrative.

Now in Legacy of Thieves we get to re-play the two most recent games, Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy in glorious PS5 vision.

God of War, PC

A new year and another PS4 console game has made the jump to PC, with Santa Monica Studio’s God of War now available to PC gamers – and what a beauty it is.

When the game came out on console in 2018 it quickly became the poster child for how a talented development team could make games on Sony’s console sing.

On PC the graphical fidelity has been turned all the way up to 11 – and it looks bloody fantastic.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger HD Byte Size Review (XSX)

Yet again I chuck on the rose-tinted glasses to revisit some good memories from the early days of the original Xbox.

This time it is a bit of an obscure HD remake in the form of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger.

Originally released in 2002 in the gaming vein of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Banjo-Kazooie, Ty definitely hit a chord with New Zealand and Australian gamers.

Deathloop retrospective

After guest writer Mark delivered a hefty Deathloop review previously. Dylan and myself thought it would be worth having a Deathloop retrospective to chew over some of the key elements.

We’ve chatted back and forth over an extended period. Rather than a review crammed into a short period we wanted to follow our own journey.

Thanks to Bethesda ANZ for the review codes.

Death Stranding: Directors Cut – PS5 Review

Death Stranding Directors Cut is an odd descriptor for the re-release of a Hideo Kojima game. Kojima is renowned for being that unbridled Game Director with creative freedom aplenty. So, one would expect a game he made was already his “cut”.  And I would argue this was especially true regarding the genre bending, Postman Pat simulator, Death Stranding.

Rest assured, Kojima has confirmed that this “sub-title” is essentially a Sony Marketers attempt of saying, this is the PS5 remastered version of Death Stranding with a few extra bits.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, PS5

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the inevitable upgrade of the Playstation darling from this time last year.

nre. He we are twelve months later with a PS5 and super strength Director’s Cut version of the game. Expanding on Jin’s story and taking him away from the titular Isle, it’s time to visit Iki Island and right some wrongs.

So, we thought about cutting ourselves loose for a feet up, three way chat.

JBL Quantum Duo, review

I’m fond of my JBL products, that’s no secret. The 600 Headphones are absolutely my go-to for close up sound in game. That said it’s easy to overlook the need for crystal clear sound outside the TV. This is where the JBL Quantum Duo comes in, sleek, classy and full of colour.

This is a desktop set that offers versatility in a simple package and plenty of “cool kids” effects.

Open Country (PS4) – Byte Size Review

The “SIM” game genre has exploded in recent years. There are Simulation titles for every interest out there. Be it farming, train driving, hunting, car servicing or even PC building!?

There is a SIM for all shapes, sizes and passions. Well, Open Country slots into this SIM genre as an “Openworld, Hunting and Survival SIM” and has a lot of different aspects to it.

But unfortunately, it does none of them well.

Death’s Door – the review

Death’s Door has certainly piqued some interest in a relatively short space of time. Fortunately Gerard and Dylan were keen enough to follow up our preview with a deft 2-winger Death’s Door Review.

Site regulars, the boys share some interesting insight into the game.

It’s great to see how Death’s Door has bucked the norm in its genre and made its challenges enjoyable in a very nuanced way.
