Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, PS4 Video Review

Over the last 10 years From Software games Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne have  become the measure for what is ‘hard’ when talking about modern video game difficulty. Their latest offering, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, once again puts controllers all round the world at grave risk, as frustrated gamers seek some catharsis by hurling them across the room or plain old snapping them in half.

Souls and Bloodborne fans will likely love this game, certainly once they have adapted to the much faster movement. But if you bounced off previous From Software titles due to the level of controller snapping difficulty….then Sekiro: Shadows Die twice is not here to change your mind.

Metro: Exodus, PS4 Review

I like Russia. Not so much for the long history of political intrigue or its civil rights abuses, but for its tough people and their underlying ability to just get shit done with very little. The Metro games are about survival in a post nuclear war Russia, and as I just alluded, not surviving in some luxurious capitalist-pig fallout shelter…….but like a tough as nails Russian, on little to no resources, ammunition and intel.

Now, its not lost on me that the developer 4A Games is in fact Ukrainian not Russian. However, as a nation with a long standing connection to Russia, (for both good and bad reasons) it gives them the unique ability to give Western gamers a glimpse into what a post-apocalyptic Mother-Russia might look like. Suffice is to say they know what they are doing and the end result is… brilliant and terrifying.

Summer Musings of a Growing Gamer-Girl

Happy to announce another Feature from resident Gamer-Girl Nina, with a terrific personal insight to the impact modern gaming has had on her.

Take it away kid…

Video games have been a part of my life ever since I was a kid. Dad talks about his Atari 2600 and Sega Master System days with such fondness. But my formative years of gaming are occurring now. I remember, as a young child, watching in awe as my Dad played games like Bastion, Mass Effect and Halo and I could not help but be enthralled by the characters and grandeur of the experiences.

Now I have had the chance to grow as a gamer, I have my own experiences to reflect upon.

Nacon “Daija” Arcade Stick, Video Review

Nacon are the relative new kids on the block, as far as Video Game accessories go, but the French company seems to go from strength to strength in the field, first with its excellent PS4 controller, now the “Daija” (Japanese for “Large Serpent”) is here to challenge for a podium spot in the popular Fight Stick market.

Check out the Video Review – where we give the rundown on the Good, the Bad and the Ugly parts of this stick!

Byte Size – Beat Saber, PSVR Review

With Playstation VR going from strength to strength in 2018 though, it seemed only matter of time before an immersive music-based game would raise its virtual head. Low and behold, little known Czech-based developer Beat Games have done just that.

The Good- Beat Saber is a game where the whole family can play….and more importantly, WANT to play. It is unique, easy to understand and fun. There is no motion sickness, looks great and even works as light physical exercise. My wife is NOT (yes in capitals)… not a gamer, and she loves this game.

The Bad – The music selection is very limited, which is a big deal for a music rhythm game. None of the songs you will likely know, and worse you cannot add custom music like our PC cousins can.

The Ugly – At $48.95 it’s pretty expensive when compared to some of the other amazing titles on offer on PSVR.

Why I LOVE R6: Siege

Guest writer and resident Siege fan-girl, Nina has chucked a feature together, digging down into why she likes Rainbow 6 just so dang much. ENJOY!

I will go ahead and say it right off the bat; I am not a hardcore multiplayer gamer. I never played CoD, I only ever played the Titanfall 2 and Halo campaigns and I was absolute trash at Destiny crucible.

That said, I do play a hell of a lot of one multiplayer game, and that game is Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege. So, with the new season just hitting consoles, I thought it is the perfect time to discuss why I, a self-confessed-not-so-good-at-multiplayer gamer, love Siege.

Vector by Anki, review

In the late 70’s I grew up watching Gil Gerard save the day as Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century, while the nuances of plot may have been lost on me one indelible mark was left.

I wanted a robot pal. I wanted my own Twiki, an independent automation that could be my faithful friend through thick and thin. Well forty years later here we are, me and Vector.

Vector is the latest must have gadget from the creative gang at Ankhi, a natural successor to the Cosmo robot that popped up a couple of years ago he has more going for him technically with a laundry list of tech squashed into his cute roving body.

I guess the burning question is, this. Are Robots just for Christmas?

According to Anki, “Vector is the Robot to Life with”. Cute.

Just Cause 4 – Rico Through The Era’s trailers and posters

It’s no secret, we love a bit of Just Cause action down at the cottage and now just 2 days away from Just cause 4 Square Enix have dropped a clever selection of retro themed trailers and movie posters to go with the launch.

Personally I’m a sucker for the 1960’s and 1970’s versions, but I can see all five of the posters lined up on my office wall soon.

Just Cause 4: Trailer-splosion

2018 has been a melting pot of Triple-A gaming goodness, you can’t swing a cat without hitting a far reaching open world, overarching emotional narrative or swamp-like forests of side quests to get through.

All well and good, but some would, I certainly could argue that even being technically superlative examples of their breed they may have forgotten what it is to be a game.

Rico is back in a few weeks and blowing shit up has never looked so good.

Games are for fun, it’s time to remember that.

CREED: Rise to Glory, PSVR Review

Creed PSVR is in familiar territory, but stands on its own two feet in the centre of its ring. Giving you the gloves of Adonis Creed the game lets you experience a ‘Rise to Glory’ from training through to a number of increasingly difficult bouts, eventuating in becoming the Super World Supreme Champion of the Galaxy as all American boxers are wont to do.

Creed does not disappoint, the suspension of disbelief that the PSVR delivers is terrific from the first moments in the gym where you experience training in the form of punching mini games through to a nervy first bought, feeling like a rabbit sat in the middle of a busy road.

Warriors Orochi, PS4 Review

Advisory: I know nothing of the Dynasty Wars, Warriors or Orochi canon.

Ok, I said it, I am ignorant of this series. I’ve seen them, I’ve heard of them, but I have never fully engaged. There may have been a dim past, where I dabbled briefly because I loved the idea of wading through an army with my magical katana, but the button mashing reality was not for me.

So, here we are many years later, there is still some mystical story at the throbbing heart of this game, but like so many narratives it passes me by. The wealth of characters and their emotional ties or motivations are too much for my puny human brain. I like the skip button, I really don’t care about who has the most honour, just throw me out and give me a flashing objective to run at.
