WRC Generations, Review

I am a massive Rally Motorsport fan, both IRL and in video games.

Colin McRae Rally on the PSOne is still one of my all-time favourite video games. In recent years, Rally fans have only had two IPs to choose from.  ‘Dirt’ from Codemasters and the official “WRC” titles from Kylotonn (KT) Games.

But with EA swallowing up Codemasters last year, and then taking the “WRC” licence from Kylotonn from 2023 onwards. 2022s WRC Generations is the last outing for the WRC franchise under KT. So, how did their WRC swansong stack up?

Call of Duty MWII, review

It’s CoD time again, and with Call of Duty MWII this year that’s not a bad thing.

Infinity Ward return to the 2019 reboot from the late PS4 cycle, continuing the story they left off.

With a familiar roster of characters and the less grizzled, but still legendary Captain Price front and centre.

Without beating around the bush in a Ghillie suit, this is one of the best Call of Duty campaigns I’ve played in a while.

A Plague Tale: Requiem Review (XSX)

A Plague Tale: Innocence was a bit of a sleeper hit. Well, to be honest it was down right over looked by many.

Asobo Studio came up with an absolutely stellar piece of gaming in both the story telling and execution departments. The sister and brother duo of Amicia and Hugo de Rune were really put through the ringer in their first trial set in 14th century France.

What with the Hundred Years’ War, Hugo’s illness, and all those rats…

Welcome to the Holy Kingdom of Keidas. A Kingdom under siege from beyond the Veil by Wraiths, evil creatures with the ability to corrupt and possess the bodies of their victims.

It is up to you to control the sisters, Briar and Lute, on a quest as newly anointed Chimera to stop this invasion. With Briar as the muscle and Lutes sacrifice to bond her to Briar as a Shade, a ghostly visage with immense mystical powers, you enter the city of Ilden to save humankind.

Good Luck.

Saints Row, Review

Saints Row, a franchise that has been around the block a few times. Originally landing as a semi-serious alternative to GTA, but with its tongue firmly planted in a cheek. Nature of cheek to be confirmed.

Over the years the games have transitioned into bawdy locker room joke fest with some absolutely ridiculous scenarios. Arguably for the fanbase, the more ridiculous they get the better.

You can’t mistake a Saint’s game. Over the top weapons, puerile humour and hi-octane, yet forgiving action. This iteration does bear those marks, but…

Logitech G923 “TRUEFORCE” Racing Wheel, Review

The Logitech G923 steering wheel is not cheap, with its RRP around the $600+ NZD mark.

That is a lot of money, but in this particular case, its a strong argument for the adage…”you get what you pay for”.

I loved every moment with the wheel and was gutted I had to send it back to Logitech NZ.

Trek to Yomi: Side-scrolling samurai

Shinto mythology describes Yomi as the Japanese word for land of the dead. It is said to be where the dead go to dwell and apparently rot indefinitely.

It’s comparable to Hell or Hades and it’s here that much of Flying Wild Hogs’ and Leonard Menchiari’s samurai hack ‘n slash game Trek to Yomi takes place.

LEGO Skywalker Saga, review

Whether or not you initially gel with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will depend on your starting point.

When presented with the option between Episodes I, IV and VII, I initially chose The Force Awakens. Mainly because my brain figured that – given this is something of a remake of the prior LEGO Star Wars Everything titles – this would represent the newest offering from Traveller’s Tales.

As it turns out, not liking the newest Star Wars movies also equates to not liking their LEGO game versions.

Once I switched to A New Hope, I found myself far more open to Skywalker Saga’s somewhat haphazard presentation.

Covering all nine films is no easy feat, let alone rewriting prior LEGO games.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Review (XSX)

It’s Bunkers & Badasses, Baybee!

Welcome to Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. What better way is there to while away your time in space than a game of Bunkers & Badasses.

A table-top fantasy RPG being played by Valentine, Frette, and you, The Newbie. And with Tiny Tina as the Dungeon Master, well, anything can happen.

All in a very Borderlands way of course.
