Elex 2 Review (XSX)

So a HUGE disclaimer right off the bat before we talk Elex 2.

I am a massive fan of the Piranha Bytes stable of games. The Gothic series, Risen series and, of course, Elex are some of my favourite games ever.

These games are all slightly different to the more popular role playing games we all know and love.

Some don’t like them at all, others have never played them, and then, like me, there is a group of absolute die hard fans.

Dynasty Warriors 9 – Empires Byte Size Review (XSX)

Dynasty Warriors 9 – Empires is the latest in the 1 vs 1000 style of Hack ‘n Slash action titles.

Empires is basically the same game as Dynasty Warriors 9 with an added layer of strategic simulation in play between battles. The genre that also includes the likes of Samurai Warriors and Warriors Orochi has always been an odd one to me.

The popularity in Eastern cultures is undeniable, less so in Western countries. The shear volume of releases points to them being financially viable at the very least.

Shadow Warrior 3 Review (PC)

Everybody likes a bit of Lo Wang. Unfortunately after his last adventure Lo is a bit well, low. Drowning in self pity, spending all day with no pants on, low. But yet again the world is need of a smart mouthed hero that is quick with a blade and a one liner.

A Shadow Warrior is needed.

Time to gather up your katana and guns, oh and your pants. It is one big nasty looking dragon that needs taking care of. Actually it might be a wyvern…

MX Keys Mini, Review (Hardware)

Keyboards. The unsung heroes of both work and play.

Most of us are just happy with whatever we get with the computer. We don’t even give it a second thought until the space bar stops working.

But in this day and age we all tend to have multiple devices, many that don’t have a physical keyboard. TV’s, tablets, phones, even gaming consoles. And we all know the pain of using the TV remote to enter Arnold Schwarzenegger into the Netflix app.

A Bluetooth keyboard is what you need. A nice sleek, mini one that looks at home on the coffee table.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger HD Byte Size Review (XSX)

Yet again I chuck on the rose-tinted glasses to revisit some good memories from the early days of the original Xbox.

This time it is a bit of an obscure HD remake in the form of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger.

Originally released in 2002 in the gaming vein of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Banjo-Kazooie, Ty definitely hit a chord with New Zealand and Australian gamers.

Forza Horizon 5 Review (XSX)

nd the first Forza Motorsport on the original Xbox, it had me hooked. But then in 2012 came the first Forza Horizon on the Xbox 360.

It was the Horizon Series that reeled me in. The freedom and forgiveness that Horizon has over its Motorsport brother is far more to my liking, and driving style. And here we are now in 2021 with the fifth instalment in the Forza Horizon franchise.

Viva Mexico!

Back 4 Blood Review (XSX)

many are calling a spiritual successor in the form of Back 4 Blood. Developer Turtle Rock Studios (renamed as Valve South) are the team behind the Left 4 Dead games and even the format of the game name points towards a sequel to Left 4 Dead.

But thanks to Copyright/Ownership/Politics Turtle Rock Studios in its current form had to create a ‘new’ IP. And so Back 4 Blood is born.

Lawn Mowing Simulator Byte Size Review (XSX)

After a few sessions of Hover Bovver for old times sake, I thought I better get some words down on the latest lawn mowing simulator to hit the market. Lawn Mower Simulator.

This time around it isn’t as easy as nipping into Jim’s shed and pinching his mower. This time you have to be fiscally sensible and run the actual business too. From uniforms to equipment, and even staff. You are the boss.

All the big brands are there, Toro, SCAG and STIGA. And yup, I haven’t heard of them either…

Hot Wheels Unleashed Preview (PC)

Hot Wheels.

Everyone knows them and every kid has a bucket full of them. And come October 1st we can all race our favourite die cast vehicles through a plethora of zany tracks. It is very rare these days to have the privilege to trial a game this far out from launch.

It shows confidence in the product for Milestone S.r.l. to release a preview. Confidence which is well placed with Hot Wheels Unleashed. Even if the only mode available is Quick Race you soon get the idea on how much fun this will be.

Necromunda: Hired Gun Review (XSX)

Necromunda: Hired Gun is a fast paced shooter based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Why I have never been pulled into the Warhammer universe is beyond me. It is as cool as hell, and ticks pretty much every box for my likes in a world setting. The plethora of Warhammer games out there, including the recent Mechanicus, just shows the sheer amount of material available of conversion to video games.

Developers Streum On Studio obviously have a love for Warhammer as their last title was Space Hulk: Deathwing. Unfortunately many of the criticisms laid against Space Hulk will be just as valid for Necromunda. But there is a dog. And you can pat it!
