LucidSound LS41 7.1 Headphones, Video Review

LucidSound is a relatively new kid on the block in the world of headsets, but they have put their flag in the sand and launched with a specific focus on gamers.

LucidSound shipped their first headset in March 2016, but they have some history in the gaming audio space, as the founder Chris Von Huben, was the founder of the very successful Triton gaming accessories company, which he sold to MadCatz in 2014ish, he then went on to start LucidSound.

Von Huben indicated he wanted to bring the aesthetic of Beats by Dre but build in the natural core control schemes gamers need.

The LS41 is the 2019 flagship 7.1 wireless model for LucidSound and it certainly holds true to the idea of being the ‘Beats’ headphones for gamers. Well made with excellent features and are now my go-to PS4 headset, hands-down. I love them.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, PS4 Video Review

Over the last 10 years From Software games Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne have  become the measure for what is ‘hard’ when talking about modern video game difficulty. Their latest offering, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, once again puts controllers all round the world at grave risk, as frustrated gamers seek some catharsis by hurling them across the room or plain old snapping them in half.

Souls and Bloodborne fans will likely love this game, certainly once they have adapted to the much faster movement. But if you bounced off previous From Software titles due to the level of controller snapping difficulty….then Sekiro: Shadows Die twice is not here to change your mind.

Metro: Exodus, PS4 Review

I like Russia. Not so much for the long history of political intrigue or its civil rights abuses, but for its tough people and their underlying ability to just get shit done with very little. The Metro games are about survival in a post nuclear war Russia, and as I just alluded, not surviving in some luxurious capitalist-pig fallout shelter…….but like a tough as nails Russian, on little to no resources, ammunition and intel.

Now, its not lost on me that the developer 4A Games is in fact Ukrainian not Russian. However, as a nation with a long standing connection to Russia, (for both good and bad reasons) it gives them the unique ability to give Western gamers a glimpse into what a post-apocalyptic Mother-Russia might look like. Suffice is to say they know what they are doing and the end result is… brilliant and terrifying.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, PS4/PSVR Video Review

I am a flight-sim nerd from waaaay back, but nowadays most of my gaming is on Console and even arcade flight games, especially this generation, are pretty thin on the ground. When I heard Ace Combat 7 was planning a landing on PS4 and PSVR my Top-Gun-Loving heart skipped a beat.

Unfortunately my prayers for a hard-core sim have not been answered, however what I got instead, was one of the most fun Arcade Flight titles I have played in years. It is brilliant! ..and there is some PSVR in the mix too!

Nacon “Daija” Arcade Stick, Video Review

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, PS4 Review

“Tactical” is a word that not only governs much of John Wick’s dress sense, but is also a gaming sub-genre that probably sends shivers down the spine of many younger gamers. But to then pile on descriptors like – “turn based strategy”- I would suspect any self-respecting, Fortnite playin tween would throw a tantrum, yell at his Mum and storm out of the room. So in this day and age of Video Games, will we ever see games of a tactical ilk again?

Well thankfully yes. For those of us who remember games like Laser Squad, the Golden Age of Sid Meiers, Civilisation and of course XCOM, the genre lives on…… boy does it live on!

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is an evolved version of the XCOM gameplay model, but with a heavy dose of exploration and stealth, and I have to say…….it is Brilliant. (And there is not a silly dancing or angsty teens to be seen.)

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, PS4 Review

When Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was announced, and it was revealed that it would be the first Call of Duty game ever to not feature a single player campaign, I will admit, I drew a breath in surprise.

If it wasn’t for 2018’s God of War, Spider-Man and Read Dead releases, I would have taken this omission of a campaign as a clear hint that singleplayer games are getting ‘Fortnited’ out of existence. But no, it is now clear that Activision have had to priorities development resources to try and jump on the Battle Royale train, while the getting is good.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas, PS4 Review

There is a certain magic about something in the ‘real world’ affecting a Video Game. Starlink: Battle for Atlas is the next iteration of the Toys-to-Life idea, which Skylanders and Disney Infinity blazed the trail on during the last generation.

The model ships and attachments are well made, look great and any child would be stoked to not only play with them in-game, but for the ships to take pride of place in a bedroom or playroom.

Simply put, Starlink is the combination of classic sci-fi, cool toys and solid open world video game fun, all wrapped up in a slick Saturday morning cartoon skin. The game has a target audience and that is kids, who will love every part of it…I’m just no sure if parents wallets are going to love it too.

Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, PSVR Review

Waaaaay back in 2016 as part of the PSVRs launch, there was a little demo about a little robot. He was cute, funny and great fun to play with. But the demo was painfully short and the cries from the burgeoning PSVR audience for a full blown Astro Bot game, were loud and clear.

Well Sony listened, and in conjunction with Japan Studios, they have created one of the best platforming experiences I have personally played in decades.

FIREWALL: Zero Hour, PSVR Review

A decent FPS is the Holy Grail of PSVR gaming, was pretty much the sentiment of our Farpoint Review a whole fourteen months ago, since then there have been plenty of reasons to argue against that statement. Moss and its isometric take, Star Trek, being basically my little boy dream and games like The Inpatient lifting the genre.

That’s all set to change, Firewall has arrived and it falls neatly into the unoccupied space of an online team based shooter that can hold its own against Rainbow Six.
